Northern Nsw Rabbit Hopping & Companion Club
We are a not for profit club affiliated with the Australian National Rabbit Council Inc.: This unique club in the Far North of NSW was formed by local rabbit owners who are passionate about domestic rabbits. Our ongoing principles of showcasing the versatility of domestic rabbits. We aim to encourage responsible pet ownership, to breed to the standards of perfection in chosen breeds, as well as the care and wellbeing of our pets or herd. We are aiming to encourage our members and the public to participate at our upcoming Breed Shows and Rabbit Hopping and Agility events. Our club is unique as we also will also be providing public education days displays at local schools, aged care and charity events shopping centres throughout the year as well as continuing Pet shows, Breed Shows and Hopping an Agility Competitions catering for all ages.
The Art of Rabbit Hopping and Agility is when a rabbit owner/ handler can get a domestic rabbit to leap over a series of 8 to 16 appropriately sized obstacles from 10cm to 50cm high including water jumps, double and triple graded jumps in both a straight and or crooked course very similar to show jumping with horses. There are also High and Long jumps events. Agility Events focus on mirror courses when 2 rabbits race each other over a mirror image course and or in timed events over a set of obstacles similar to dog agility like weave poles, balance beams jumping through rings etc. Rabbit hopping began in the late 1970’s in Sweden as a means of exercising pet rabbits and later became popular in Denmark, Canada and the UK as a sport. It is now running in Sydney, Victoria and in West Australia and has been at major International Pet shows in the UK, Canada and Denmark with a recent stand-alone championships at Elite levels with 700 entries at the 2013 Denmark championships. We are seeking assistance from you so we can display our amazing hoppers, educate the public and attend to fund raising activities. As we need to raise the funds to build equipment /jumps get portable fencing for our events and securing hopefully a permanent venue in Lismore to hold our club events. Hope this helps you please contact me on: 0407-867-990 or Email - [email protected] if you need any more information yours sincerely, Fran Boston.
